Hello everyone! You are reading the thirty-first issue of The Handwritten.
Feels like a long time already, no? *sigh*
But I feel so good that I am publishing again.
The last two weeks have been crazy but I am glad I redefined consistency for myself. This has helped me brainstorm things better and make time for other priorities— freelance being one of them.
I have divided this issue into 3 parts.
Leveraging Referrals & Saying “Yes”
I got this freelance opportunity when one of my friends tagged me. I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it because I had college work and I wasn’t qualified enough to do it.
But this is how I counter-argued my beliefs.
I would never run out of college work. But this is not what I wanted all this time. I wanted to gain experience and get better at writing.
I would never be *qualified enough* if I keep saying no to the opportunities. So this was all BS I was giving to myself.
Adhering to the Deadlines
Imagine you forgot to get your assignment printed and now you are in a panic because tomorrow is the submission deadline. You call the nearby print shop owner and ask if they can open the shop early tomorrow morning. They assure you but they don’t open it. How will you feel?
This is how your first-time client will feel about you. If you think that the deadline is impractical to meet, tell them beforehand. If not, try adhering to it unless something genuine happens.
I completed my assignment on time and my client appreciated respecting the deadline. It’s no impress-the-client trick. It tells a lot about your work ethic and the systems you build for yourself.
Work on the Feedback However Easy It May Seem
I received feedback on the kind of tone I had to use. I conveyed why I used the tone I did and they understood. Clear communication helped us both figure out how the work should be and I understood how I had to work on the feedback.
So? Tell your client why you did the task a certain way. And always and always listen to them. They are more experienced than you are.
What made me feel good?
At the end of the day, getting 0% plagiarism felt like an ultimate relief.
That’s all for today. Let me know if you have any doubts about building projects or/and getting clients.
Let’s Discuss “Too Much Work”
As much as too much work feels pressuring, it always teaches you something new. It teaches you about the priorities you need to set for yourself and how you can look for alternatives. It makes you learn how you have to make time for certain things and people like family.
But before you try to realise this, take breaks and pauses.
