I Got on a Hiring Call With Vedika Bhaia (Founder, The Growth Square) #27
But I didn't take the opportunity. No regrets, only lessons from Pen-a-Thon.
Hello everyone! You're reading the twenty-seventh issue of The Handwritten.
Have you ever participated in a competition where you had no hopes of getting selected?
We've all been there, haven’t we?
In the 25th issue of The Handwritten, I mentioned participating in the Pen-a-Thon— a LinkedIn post-writing competition organised by Vedika Bhaia and Unnati Bagga. A lot of amazing writers in my network had participated too. As a usual estimation, I didn't expect that my assignment would come under the top ten writers. This is the message I received from a team member of The Growth Square.
I was nervous and panicked a bit about the interview call. I talked to my seniors and people who have had the experience of working at an agency. The lesson here? It’s better to get help and clear your confusion instead of having assumptions and making up answers in your head. And no, you needn’t give the same answers if asked the same questions. Because we all have different journeys to walk upon, and different visions to grow with!
After composing myself before the call, it became easier for me to answer the questions. Some of the important questions are here.
Will you leave your internship to join here?
Who are your top five favourite writers?
Which entrepreneurs do you follow?
For the first question, I requested some time to decide. With my experience in digital writing, I honestly told her that I’m still exploring the niches and learning by trying out— both with people I’m working for and with my content as well. To which Vedika said that there’s so much I still need to learn and it’s just the beginning and that’s true!
As
says, “You may be underestimated because of your age and it’s true and fine at the same time. But don’t take it to heart, take it as feedback and learn from it to get better.”Needless to say, it was a great opportunity to get the knack of the LinkedIn game.
But it hasn’t been long with my current internship. I cannot work at two places because of regular college. It’s the quality that will be compromised. And there’s no point in working anywhere if I am not able to devote time to learning. Switching places this soon was not something I felt right. I want to learn more here, understand working with the team better and comprehend the intricacies of an early-age startup. Cliché but learning demands time.
But do I regret not taking the chance to work at a renowned agency?
I had doubts initially, honestly. But I am taking it as a sign of working better at my content and strengthening certain aspects of it.
The best it did was it made me believe and realise that if we put in bits and bits every day, we all can surely improve. And maybe it’s not always about the opportunities that you take and let go of, it’s also about where you choose to stay irrespective of the money and you only get better at commitment.
That’s all for today! One suggestion is to keep participating in challenges and competitions to explore and build credibility around your Proof of Work.
As promised, here’s my PoW for the Pen-a-Thon.
